Pond Repairs & Renovations

A pond or water garden as it is sometimes referred to is made up of many different parts and when those parts are assembled together correctly, they form a beautiful and naturalistic work of art that changes personality with the time of day, the change of the seasons, and the moods of mother nature.

Most people think of outdoor grills and patio furniture when they think of outdoor living spaces. Once the outdoor meal is over, what more is there to do in your backyard? While many homeowners turn to pools or hot tubs, they’re discouraged by the amount of maintenance and chemicals required with these amenities.

For the price of a hot tub, a beautiful ecosystem pond can be installed, and less maintenance is required thereby providing more time to relax and enjoy friends and family.

Pools and hot tubs utilize heavy use of chemicals to stay clean. An Ecosystem Pond maintains clarity and quality of water through a balance of fish, plants, aeration, and filtration, often eliminating the need for chemicals. In northern climates, outdoor grills and similar features are typically enjoyed during the warmer months, whereas a water feature can be enjoyed year-round.

Now that you’ve decided to dive into the world of the water gardening lifestyle, you’re probably wondering exactly what you need to do to maintain your new aquatic beauty, and keep it looking good.

There is a lot of conflicting information out there about the do’s and don’ts of water garden maintenance so your head may be spinning, wondering which steps are necessary and which ones aren’t. The whole point of installing your pond in the first place was to reduce the stress in your life, not add it to.

The Basics For Cleaning Ecosystem Ponds…

(Pondless) Water Features

Are you interested in installing a water feature in your yard, but concerned about the safety and liabilities of having a pond? Or are you apprehensive about taking on the responsibility of maintaining a full-fledged ecosystem? Well, we have the answer for you. The Disappearing Pondless® Waterfall is basically that — a waterfall and stream, without the pond.

Pondless Waterfalls installed by Certified Aquascape Contractors are a simply a re-circulating Disappearing Waterfall and/or stream without the presence of a pond. You can enjoy the sight and sound of running water without the maintenance of a pond. If you are considering a Pondless Waterfall for your yard, you can trust in French’s Waterscapes to get it done right the first time.

Safety… Because there is no pool of water, an Aquascape Pondless® Waterfall is a great option if you are concerned about safety issues associated with a traditional pond.

Cost… Cost can be a big factor when considering the type of water garden you want to build. In most cases, the price of an Aquascape Pondless® Waterfall will be less than a pond, because there is less labor involved, as well as less rock and materials. Operating costs are also less. Because you are not dealing with an established ecosystem, it is not necessary to run the pump 24/7.

Space… The small size of the Aquascape Pondless® Waterfall means you can build and enjoy a beautiful waterfall anywhere in you yard.

Maintenance… Taking care of your Aquascape Pondless® Waterfall is easy. Filling the reservoir every few weeks to compensate for water loss because of evaporation is all that’s required.

Flexibility… Perhaps the best part of the Aquascape Pondless® Waterfall is the possibility for the future. If you change your mind later, wishing you had built a pond, that is ok! If you leave enough room around the base of the waterfall, it is easy to add a pond onto an Aquascape Pondless® Waterfall.

Ecosystem Ponds

Ecosystem ponds include a natural balance of fish, plants, aeration, filtration, rocks, and gravel. All components interact naturally with one another helping to create and maintain a sustainable, low-maintenance ecosystem pond. Each pond is unique in its design and creation, whether large or small.

Fountainscapes

A water feature is any indoor or outdoor décor that incorporates water. Landscape Fountains, also known as fountainscapes are small decorative water features such as tabletop fountains, container water gardens, stand-alone fountains, bubbling urns, spitters, and fountains that incorporate an in-ground reservoir. Fountainscapes are the perfect way to add a splash of water to your landscape! Typically found in kits, they come in a variety of styles and sizes and can be installed in just a couple of hours. If you love the sound of water in the garden, a fountain is your perfect beginning.

Why a Landscape or Garden Fountain

Adding a water feature brings a whole new sensory experience to your garden. A well-placed garden fountain can transform an ordinary backyard into a relaxing outdoor retreat with the restorative sound and hypnotizing movement of trickling water. A fountainscape can also serve as a focal point in a front yard, plaza or courtyard.

Garden Landscape fountains come in a wide range of sizes, styles and materials. You can purchase a prefabricated fountain or you can have one custom designed and built. Landscape Fountains can be mounted on walls, freestanding, tiered or disappearing. The option you choose will primarily depend on your budget, space availability, maintenance considerations and garden style. A good rule-of-thumb is to use a large fountain as a focal point and a small fountain as an accent element. French’s Waterscapes can help you sort through the options and ask the right questions before you install your fountain.

If you’re interested in “testing the waters” of the water gardening hobby, a container water garden is a great place to start! They are generally used to add the sound of water to a deck or patio, but they also look great greeting visitors by the front door. But they don’t just add beauty, they also give kids a fun way to learn about nature, and make a great starter “pond” for any young children interested in water. A container water garden can be created using virtually any type of container … as long as it has the ability to hold water. An old clawfoot tub, a galvanized bucket, your favorite terra cotta pot, or an old whiskey barrel all make great containers for your new water garden! Once you’ve chosen the container, you need to make sure it will hold water. Any un-glazed pottery will need to be sealed and drain holes will need to be plugged. A wooden container such as a whiskey barrel can be lined with a piece of rubber liner that is affixed to the rim. Make sure the sealant you use safe for plants and fish.
